Practice of TherapeuticDonorInsemination is widely practiced in India today. But mostly fresh samples are used for want of availability of frozen tested and quarantined semen samples. Many believe that fresh samples are better quality for what of frozen samples. Due to increase in prevalence of HIV it is necessary to abandon such potentially hazardous practice.

IndianCouncil Of Medical Research in recently released guideline for ART centers has underlined this fact and banned use of fresh samples for done insemination.  Very soon these guidelines will be enacted into a law passed by Parliament and will be illegal to use fresh samples for insemination. Setting up of semen bank also will be regulated under these guidelines and it will become technically demanding to set up a ART in small set-ups. Moreover it will become necessary for all ART centers to procure samples from only licensed semen bank centers.
